Indoor Air Quality

Using low-pile or less allergen-attracting carpet can improve indoor air quality. Many Built Green Homes feature plans that reduce the amount of carpeting and use alternate flooring materials made from sustainable harvested wood or bamboo.
The use of low-VOC and low toxic interior paints will also improve interior air quality
Mechanical ventilation will also help to avoid interior air quality problems. Ventilation can be provided by quiet fans with automatic controls or by heat recovery ventilators

Conserving Natural Resources

Recycled plastic lumber or plastic/wood composite lumber provide durable alternatives to solid wood for exterior applications such as fences, benches and decking. These materials have a very long life expectancy and minimal maintenance.
Engineered wood Laminated veneer lumber (LVL), wood I-beams, I-joists and wood roof and floor trusses combine efficient use of raw materials with improved performance.
Fiber cement siding are resource efficient and durable. These products offer a maximum benefit to the home-owner. they are less expensive then wood siding and come with extended warranties
Brick is another benign product that results in little of no wasted material. Brick can be recycled
A jobsite recycling plan will decrease the the amount of material going to landfills

Water Quality Protection

Porous paving schemes will reduce or eliminate runoff due to impervious (watertight) surfaces. By designing driveways, walkways and patios that allow storm water runoff to infiltrate into the ground, the impact on aquatic systems is minimized
Rainwater collection can be a free source of irrigation water. These collection systems are designed for irrigation only.
